PLANETARY TREMORS: Strong 6.5 Magnitude Quake Rattles the South Pacific Island of Vanuatu!

A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the South Pacific island of Vanuatu on Sunday, the US Geological Survey said, but there was no tsunami warning.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage either. The quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of eight kilometres, around 150 kilometres south east of the capital Port Vila. Vanuatu lies on the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire", a zone of frequent seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.

The earthquake hit shortly after 9.00am (around 0330 IST), USGS said. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an information bulletin but no alert, saying "a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii". - Hindustan Times.

PLANETARY TREMORS: Moderate 5.9 Earthquake Strikes Indonesia's Sunda Strait!

A moderate 5.9-magnitude quake struck Indonesia's Sunda Strait early Sunday, the US Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake struck at 02:26 am (1926 GMT Saturday) at a depth of about 50 kilometres. The USGS reported the epicentre was more than 170 kilometres west of the capital Jakarta.

Two massive earthquakes struck off Indonesia's Sumatra island last week, triggering an Indian Ocean-wide tsunami alert and sending terrified people fleeing from the coast.

At a magnitude of 8.6, the first of the two quakes which hit on Wednesday was the strongest since the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed 170,000 in Indonesia's quake-prone Aceh province. But the tsunami watch on Wednesday was eventually lifted and no major damage was reported. - Channel News Asia.

RATTLE & HUM: "The Sounds of the Apocalypse" - Media and Authorities Tries Cover-Up Mysterious Noises in America and England as Sonic Booms From Jets!

A close observation of media reports on the mysterious sound phenomena that has been heard across the globe, seems to reveal a very deliberate pattern of plausible deniability. Given the fact that an absence of incontrovertible evidence is offered  to the public by the authorities, an attempt is being made to plausibly deny everything or excuse it away, with accessible and easily recognized "proof" such as a sonic boom from jets.

Here are two of the latest overt and subtle examples of this.

Columbus, Ohio - Deep Large and Heavy Boom Over Ohio Blamed On Jet.
A loud noise heard near Delaware and Marion counties concerned many residents Thursday evening. 10TV News received reports that residents in Hilliard, Galloway, Westerville and Canal Winchester also heard the sound. According to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, a low-flying jet broke the sound barrier and created a sonic boom. - 10tv.
Midlands, England - UK Ministry of Defence Claims RAF Jets Rushing To Intercept Private Helicopter Caused Massive Boom That Shook Homes Across England!
Emergency services across swaths of England were inundated with calls from worried residents amid reports of a mysterious "loud bang" which turned out to be a sonic boom from two RAF Typhoon jets. Concerned locals across the Home Counties, Cotswolds, Wiltshire, Somerset and parts of the Midlands reported hearing the deafening noise shortly after 6pm on Thursday amid fears of a large explosion. But rather than anything sinister, it was a sonic boom caused by a pair of Royal Air Force Typhoon jets breaking the sound barrier, the Ministry of Defence said. The Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) crews were scrambled after a civilian helicopter emitted an emergency signal in the Oxford area. MoD sources said the "idiot" pilot, who has not been identified, had used a wrong frequency to emit the emergency signal that usually indicates an aircraft has either been hijacked or had "gone rogue". Fearing that a serious incident was unfolding, MoD officials gave the jets the green light to go "supersonic, which resulted in the sonic boom". - Telegraph.

EXTREME WEATHER USA: Tornadoes Strikes Norman, Oklahoma Causing Property Damage and Minor Injuries - "Life-Threatening" Storms Feared For Midwest!

Officials say a tornado that touched down near the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman caused a few minor injuries and some property damage.

The National Weather Service confirmed that a twister touched down Friday afternoon near the campus and a state highway.  Norman Regional Hospital spokeswoman Kelly Wells says about 10 people were treated for "bumps and bruises."   Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey says the tornado damaged several homes and buildings in the city of about 100,000 residents 20 miles south of Oklahoma City.  University spokesman Michael Nash says students and non-essential personnel at the weather service's offices on the campus were ordered to remain indoors due to a tornado warning.

Damage was relatively slight from the twister, CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds reports, but according to the National Weather Service, it could be the first of many more to come.  The Storm Prediction Center says 5.5 million Americans fall under the scope of Saturday's coming storm system which they call a "high-end life-threatening event."  Forecasters sent out a high-risk alert a full day ahead of the system that now jeopardizes areas from Iowa to Texas. They spoke of the need to have a plan to take shelter and to stay alert to the latest bulletins.  "We want to make certain that we do every effort to make sure people receive those, can act on those and can make themselves safe," National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Foster told CBS News.  It has been an unusually active and deadly spring; this March, said Reynolds, was the fourth deadliest on record. - CBS.

The quake was located at 57.588°S, 65.413°W with a depth of 9.9 km (6.2 miles). No tsunami warning was issued.

The epicentre was 358 km (222 miles) southeast of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina; 447 km (277 miles) southeast of Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina; 604 km (375 miles) southeast of Punta Arenas, Magallanes, Chile; and 816 km (507 miles) SSW of Stanley, Falkland Islands.

RATTLE & HUM: "The Sounds of the Apocalypse" - Mysterious Loud Booms Heard Over Oxfordshire County?!

Police have been inundated with calls about loud bang, believed to be a series of sonic booms.

Fire crews are also investigating the source of the noise and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue are liaising with neighbouring counties.

Thames Valley Police duty inspector Phil Rogers said people have reported the noise, from Chipping Norton, Burford, Banbury and North Newington, right out to Swindon and Warwick.

He said: "There have been no reports of any casualties or damage.

"We believe it could be a sonic boom from a supersonic aircraft."

He added that he believed it to be more than a single incident as the reports were so far spread.

Some have reported the noise was so loud it 'shook their house'. - Oxford Mail.

PLANETARY TREMORS: Two Moderate Earthquakes Rattles Gujarat, Maharashtra in India!

Two earthquakes of mild intensity shook parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat today, but there were no reports of any casualty.

A quake measuring 5 on the Richter scale was experienced in parts of western Maharashtra at 10.50 am. Its epicenter was Goshatwadi village, about 10km from Koyana dam in Satara district, the Met office here said. An aftershock of 4.4 magnitude was registered an hour later, it said. The Koyna dam, situated in a quake-prone region, is safe, officials said. The tremors were also felt in several parts of Mumbai, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Pune, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.

There were no reports of any damage to life or property, they added. A quake, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, was felt at 8.55 AM in parts of Gujarat. The earthquake had its epicenter at Vamka taluka in Kutch, which is an active fault line, scientists at Institute of Seismological Research said. An aftershock measuring 2.9 was also felt, they said. Besides Kutch district, tremors were experienced in parts of Saurashtra region. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far in Gujarat, officials said. Among those who felt the tremors in Mumbai were megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who resides in suburban Juhu. “Earthquake in Mumbai ! Did you feel it...I did...Shutters and building shook twice for few seconds,” Bachchan tweeted. - Indian Express.

MONUMENTAL EARTH CHANGES: ICE AGE NOW - Amount of Ice in the Bering Sea Reaches All-Time Record!

The amount of floating ice in the Arctic's Bering Sea - which had long been expected to retreat disastrously by climate-Cassandra organisations such as Greenpeace - reached all-time record high levels last month, according to US researchers monitoring the area using satellites.

The US National Snow and Ice Data Center announced last week that ice extent in the Bering for the month of March has now been collated and compared, and is the highest seen since records began. The NSIDC boffins said in a statement:
As winds from the north pushed Arctic ice southward through the Bering Strait, the ice locked together and formed a structurally continuous band known as an ice arch, which acts a bit like a keystone arch in a building. The ice arch temporarily held back the ice behind it, but as the winds continued, the arch failed along its southern edge, and ice cascaded south through the strait into the Bering Sea. Sea ice also piled up on the northern coast of St Lawrence Island, streaming southward on either side of it.
This contrasts sharply with the grim future for the Bering predicted by Greenpeace. Thirteen years ago in 1999, the hippies* had this to say:
The first regions to be affected will be ice-dependent seas near but outside the Arctic Ocean proper, including the Bering Sea ... These areas are currently covered in seasonal winter ice, which could vanish altogether with continued warming. Walruses, which travel long distances on floating sea ice that allows them to feed over a wide area may be particularly vulnerable ... Many species of seal are ice-dependent, including the spotted seal, which in the Bering Sea breeds exclusively at the ice edge in spring; the harp seal, which lives at the ice edge all year; the ringed seal, which give birth to and nurse their pups on sea ice; the ribbon seal and the bearded seal. Polar bears would be threatened by any decline in ringed seal populations, their main food source.
Which now looks alarmist to say the least. The NSIDC boffins add, however that overall the Arctic ice - while up on recent years - is below the average seen since records began in 1979. In fact, according to the Cryosphere Today website run by the Polar Research group at Illinois uni, it's down by 443,000 square km. However the sea ice around the Antarctic coasts is above average by 452,000 km2, so overall the planet's sea ice is at the moment slightly above average in extent - and in the Bering Sea, the walruses, seals and polar bears can quite literally chill out in comfort. - The Register.

GLOBAL VOLCANISM: Costa Rica's Turrialba Volcano Increases Activity - Unleashed a New Series of Eruptions!

Thursday morning the Turrialbla volcano unleashed a new series of eruptions, with experts converging on the colossus to take a close look at the smoke emanations coming from its centre.

For a live view of the volcano (photos update every 10 seconds) click here.
According to the Red Sismol√≥gica Nacional (RSN) and the Observatorio Vulcanologio y Sismologico de Costa Rica (OVISCORI) the activity does not present any danger, but will continue to monitor the volcano much closer.  The alert followed reports by area residents of hearing a large rumble and then the sighting of dark coloured smoke, produced by gas fumes from the volcano.

Last January the volcano became a concern for residents and experts following the emanation of white gas fumes.  Several RSN experts are on their way to the top of the volcano and the OVISCORI is keeping the national park closed and under a green alert. - Inside Costa Rica.

RATTLE & HUM: "The Sounds of the Apocalypse" - Strange Sounds Heard Coming From the Skies in Oregon!

It seems that the series of phenomena, involving a persistent and invasive vibration or noise, continues pervasively. Just what is it? Planetary tremors? Geological upheavals? Precursor to an imminent disaster? Motions and waves suggesting an imminent pole shift? Supernatural occurrences?  The latest case comes out of Oregon, where a fellow YouTube user, provided a recording of mysterious sounds propagating across her neighborhood.

"This is the 3rd morning in a row at roughly 3:00 am. The sound starts with a rumbling in the ground, and then the sound continues for roughly 30 minutes or so. Can not explain where it is coming from, it seems as if it is coming strait from the sky with not a single plane in sight. If anyone has anymore info. on this sound we are hearing, I would very much appreciate any explanation to what we are experiencing here in Oregon."

TERMINATOR NOW: Rise of the Machines - Cyberplasm Integration, the Synthetic-Biology Microscale Biohybrid Robot!

Cyberplasm integration will be accomplished via a combination of nano/microscale fabrication and matching the synthetic biology with materials development (an iterative process). The body of Cyberplasm will have several functions. Its core will consist of a hydrogel with tunable mechanical properties and a microbial fuel cell.

The hydrogel will be modified using microscale patterning of PEI to allow for adhesion of myotubes. Additionally, mechanical properties of the hydrogel will be tuned via cross-linking to allow maximum motile propulsion of myotubes. The force that myotubes exert on the hydrogel will be assessed by the displacement of embedded fluorescent beads followed by subsequent finite element analysis. We plan to develop a new microbial fuel cell technology to power Cyberplasm electronics. (I rather imagine that a microbial electronic fuel cell could have some interestingly broad applications. Like, for instance, tying off your arm and shooting up voltage.)
Unlike conventional microbial fuel cells we will genetically engineer the bacteria to improve electron permeability and specific adhesion to the electrodes. This way we can do away with proton exchange membranes allowing for a more efficient and smaller cell. Moreover we will be able to remove the need for electron transfer agents allowing a more efficient cell to be produced. In effect we will produce a bacterial battery with single films of bacteria sandwiched between electrodes. What we are proposing is so novel in term of the progress that can be made in improving performance that this use of synthetic biology will revolutionize the field of microbial fuel cells. Microfluidic channels will supply the fuel cell with reactant and medium to sustain the bacteria. In addition hydrogel valves will control the supply of fuel to the myotubes allowing Cyberplasm to be sustained from an internal supply of necessary resources. - WIRED.
