PLANETARY TREMORS: Popocatepetl Volcano Blasts Tower of Ash!

The towering volcano over the Mexico City, Popocatepetl has begun erupting ashes yet again. The volcano has shot a huge blast of ash lengthening around 3 kilometres above its crater.

The Popocatepetl volcano that towers over Mexico City began rumbling again Friday, shooting a blast of ash about 2 miles (3 kilometers) above its crater at dawn. The ash cloud drifted first to the west and then turned back east toward the city of Puebla, Mexico's national disaster prevention agency said. The 17,886-foot (5,450-meter) mountain shook for several minutes before the ash burst out. The agency urged people to stay at least 7 miles (12 kilometers) from the crater, which is about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of Mexico's capital. Puebla state civil defense Director Jesus Morales told a local television station that the cloud "has a high ash content, but it doesn't represent a risk. A little ash could fall in Puebla city," he said. Both Morales and federal civil defense coordinator Laura Gurza warned residents in the region that they shouldn't wet down any ash that falls before sweeping it away. - CBS News.
An active volcano near Mexico City shot out a giant column of ash that rose three kilometers into the sky on Friday, but the government's national disaster agency said the event was relatively moderate and brief. The volcano Popocatepetl, a tongue-twisting name that is often shortened to "Popo," began shaking and rumbling minutes before releasing a spectacular plume of ash that caught the early morning sun. The plume moved toward the states of Puebla, Morelos and Mexico, which surround the capital, and ash was reported falling in several small communities, the National Center for the Prevention of Disasters said in a statement around midday. The disaster agency, which regularly monitors Popo, said the exhalation was normal for a volcano under a "yellow alert," and that its warning status would remain the same. The visible eruption was one of five from early Thursday to early Friday, the agency said, adding that moderate emissions of ash, water and gases were possible during the day and into the evening. - Wall Street Journal.
The Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report also provides details on this unrest and new activity.
CENAPRED reported that on 30 May an ash plume from Popocatépetl rose 800 m above the crater and drifted E. Geologic Summary. Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, towers to 5,426 m 70 km SE of Mexico City and is North America's second-highest volcano. Frequent historical eruptions have been recorded since the beginning of the Spanish colonial era. A small eruption on 21 December 1994 ended five decades of quiescence. Since 1996 small lava domes have incrementally been constructed within the summit crater and destroyed by explosive eruptions. Intermittent small-to-moderate gas-and-ash eruptions have continued, occasionally producing ashfall in neighboring towns and villages.

EARTH CHANGES: Fourth Largest Wildfire in the State of Arizona!

In Arizona, the wildfires that have been blazing for weeks, is now uncontrollable, becoming the fourth largest in the state's history and forcing the evacuation of residents in three communities.

Wildfires burning through tinder-dry brush and timber lands in Arizona forced dozens of evacuations in three small communities, authorities said. The evacuation order for Paradise and East Whitetail Canyon in southeastern Arizona went out Thursday night as strong winds pushed the so called Horseshoe Two fire toward the towns, the Cochise County Sheriff's office said.

The nearby Chiricahua National Monument was closed as a precaution. Earlier in the day, people living in or staying in Alpine in eastern Arizona were ordered to evacuate by evening. A shelter was set up at Blue Ridge High School in Pinetop-Lakeside. There was no exact figure on the number of evacuees. Alpine is home to about 250 people, though not all live there year-round. The Alpine blaze, known as the Wallow fire, has burned 63 square miles (40,500 acres) of forest land and is being fanned by strong winds. It's at zero containment, fire officials said.

The Horseshoe Two fire has been burning for days and has charred about 135 square miles (86,000 acres) of brush and timber. Officials said it had been 75 percent contained until the winds picked up, dropping containment down to 50 percent. Paradise has about a dozen occupied homes and many other vacation residences, Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's office, told The Associated Press. East Whitetail Canyon has about a dozen homes. The U.S. Forest Service said about 800 firefighters are battling the blaze, and many are involved in protecting structures in the evacuated communities. Meanwhile, a wildfire burning in northern Arizona has threatened the closure of part of Interstate 40 west of Flagstaff, officials said. The Engineer fire has burned about 100 acres near Camp Navajo, an Army National Guard Base in Bellemont. KTVK-TV in Phoenix reports I-40 remains open Thursday night but could close if smoke gets too heavy or conditions become dangerous.

GEOLOGICAL UPHEAVAL: Massive Sinkhole in Berkshire, UK!

Have a look at the following image of a massive sinkhole that opened up in Berkshire in the United Kingdom.

It's not every day you get a call when you're on holiday to tell you that a huge 20ft crater has opened up in your garden - and that the garden fence is hanging in thin air. Businessman and father of four Muhammad Asghar immediately cancelled his trip and returned to the UK where the massive hole has threatened to engulf his family home. He and his wife, Amina, of Earley in Berkshire, are now terrified that their home could follow the same fate as their lawn. Mr Asghar was in Pakistan when his wife reported that the enormous crevasse had appeared. On his return the family contacted the local council but they have been told that they cannot help since the hole opened up on private property. And their home insurers have said the 20ft fissure is not covered by their home policy as it has appeared in the garden. Experts have visited the property, amid fears that the cave-in might be the latest evidence of old chalk mines in the area. The 50-year-old who lives in the house with his wife, four sons and grandson, said: 'All the neighbours came over and they said it could happen anywhere. 'Today it is here but tomorrow it could be somewhere else and two days later another home. 'We had a party with 40 people here. Imagine if it had happened then. 'It could happen below a house. What happens if someone is killed?' He added: 'The council and insurance people aren't really interested.' Mr Asghar's son, Aadil, 23, who runs his father's fast food outlet, added: 'We don't know if it has finished (collapsing). Who knows what's down there? 'It's not our job to dig it up. You can't expect every house owner to dig up their property. 'It's not our fault.' - Daily Mail

PLANETARY TREMORS: New Fault Discovered in New Zealand?!

A new fault has been discovered in New Zealand, that could possibly produced a mega-earthquake in the already disaster-ravaged area of Christchurch.

A previously undiscovered fault capable of generating a magnitude-7 earthquake has been found by scientists investigating bedrock off Christchurch. Analysis of the Canterbury earthquakes is being carried out by teams of scientists from agencies including GNS Science, NIWA and the University of Canterbury. They have found a previously unknown "complex arrangements of faults" in the bedrock under Canterbury and offshore under Pegasus Bay. One of those was an offshore fault about 25km long - similar in length to the Greendale fault which caused the original Canterbury earthquake on September 4. The large fault was discovered when NIWA's research vessel Kaharoa conducted a seismic survey of 800 square kilometres in southern Pegasus Bay. NIWA principal scientist Philip Barnes said it was part of a widespread network of faults in basement rocks in the bay. Most were millions of years old and "very slow moving" - though a small number of faults showed evidence of reactivation in the more recent geological past, he said. "There are younger fault structures that are active and they are reactivating the older faults." However, he said there was no strong evidence of aftershocks in the region migrating toward Pegasus Bay at present. "Understanding the earthquake hazard for the coming years and decades requires an assessment of all the faults in the region, and learning about their rates of activity and earthquake potential." University of Canterbury professor Jarg Pettinga, who led the onshore seismic surveys, said his team's data had revealed several previously unknown fault structures, mostly trending northeast-southwest. They were likely to be the bedrock structures on which the magnitude-5.3 Boxing Day and magnitude-6.3 February 22 earthquakes occurred, he said. - NZ Herald.

less than hundred meters away from the subsidence that occurred on 6 December where land subsidence, the current site was also enclosed, the ongoing maintenance of the construction. “Here even more than 10 days to fix it over there again.” Worker Wang talked about the reasons for land subsidence, and he speculated with the geology. He said the main geological sediment Pearl River New City, “despite the fact the shot, the rain to wash empty.”... previous subsidence, an area of 10 square meters, about 5 meters deep, the stones fell and narrowly missed the gas pipeline. In contrast, the subsidence is not serious. However, the occurrence time of the two so close, had to pay attention to. EARTH CHANGES: Lowest levels of Rainfall In 138 Years in Shanghai!

China's worst drought in a half-century is deepening, with the parched weather that has left millions in Shanghai and the Yangtze River region without enough drinking water, pushing inflation higher and adding to widespread power shortages. According to news reports, more than 3.2 million acres (1.3 million hectares) of farmland have been affected in seven provinces that form China's "rice basket."

Shanghai is currently experiencing its longest period of no precipitation in 138 years, according to a report released on Monday by the Shanghai Municipal Meteorological Bureau. Shanghai's urban areas have recorded just 132.9 mm of rainfall since the beginning of this year, the lowest level since 1873, said the report. Shanghai already experienced a dry and cold winter last year, with the the lowest average temperatures recorded in the city since 1978, the report said. Shanghai has had a relatively short spring as well, according to the report. Spring only lasted for 48 days this year, over 20 days shorter than the average 71-day spring, the report said. It is predicted that the city will face unusually high temperatures over the coming summer months, according to the report. - People's Daily Online.
